Anger is one of the many emotions that we all experience on occasion. It is probably one of the biggest aspects of life that we all have in common. There are some people out here in the world that claim that they never get angry, but that is something that I personally find very hard to believe. The only way that I can see that being even somewhat feasible is if you're a person that just never goes around other people at all. Even if that were plausible, there would still be something in a person's life that will bring out the emotion of anger. Heck, just stubbing your toe against a table is enough to make a person angry from the sheer pain. I believe that one of the more overlooked aspects of life when it comes to the emotion of anger is the degree and intensity of the emotion. There are various levels when it comes to being angry. There are going to be some things that make us more angry than other things. Furthermore, there are going to things that mildly make us angry, while there can be circumstances that bring our anger to the point of full blown rage. Often times the emotion of anger it and of itself shouldn't be at the forefront of how we react. It is normally the reasons and how we react with our anger is what matters most. Life can be a complex puzzle of emotions, and that also applies when it comes to anger. This is why I feel that it is of importance for us to develop the ability to view anger in the proper context within our lives.
Hey, how's it going everyone? This is Brad H. back once again, and I'd like to welcome you all to another installment of 'Brad H.'s Perspective'! I am here once again to bring my perspective on a topic that I think would be helpful for us all. I think that most of us can agree that we definitely need some extra motivation during these trying times that we're in. I hope all has been good for you all since the last topic. So for this week's soapbox section, I'm going to be giving my perspective on the news this week of how the upcoming NFL season could potentially be cancelled. Now as of right now, nothing has been officially announced in regards to the season being cancelled. However, Dr. Anthony Fauci, who we all know of by now due to the pandemic recently made comments stating that the season could be in jeopardy if players aren't in a bubble and tested daily. Also, news came out of a few players from the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans tested positive for the virus. The most notable name being Ezekiel Elliot, running back for the Cowboys. Of course this news set the internet on fire, and understandably so. The majority of us love football, right? I read a lot of comments where people were basically going at Dr. Fauci for implying that there may not be any football this season. Now I think I've said this before in previous topics, but as much as I love sports myself, I would rather not see them happen if it puts the players in jeopardy. I'll never tell anyone else what to do or think, but I think safety is more important right now with what we're dealing with globally. I just hope we as a people can keep things in the proper perspective when it comes to the things that are a priority first. Remember that sports will always be here, and they are going to come back eventually. That's pretty much my opinion on this topic, so lets go ahead and talk more about the importance of viewing anger in the proper context.
Now when the average person typically thinks of anger and how it affects us in our lives, we usually associate it with negativity. I will gladly admit that I am one of those people that thinks this way for the most part. There have been many occasions in my life where getting angry has had a negative effect on my life. I'm sure that all of you can relate to this in your own personal life as well. For me personally, one of the biggest things with anger is that like with the many other emotions that we experience in life, it doesn't take much to get us to that point. I could experience anger right this moment with this topic that I am typing out. If I were to lose the work that I've done it on because my computer shutdown unexpectedly before I was able to save my work, I could easily find myself being angry about that. Someone looking at you the wrong way in public could quickly trigger an angry emotion in you. It doesn't take much at all, right? Now another aspect of anger is the loss of self control. How many of us have gotten angry and said something that we more than likely would not say if we hadn't gotten angry? Depending on what it is that has made a person angry, along with the degree of the anger at hand plays a large factor in how anger affects our lives.
Now although I talked about how most people, including myself see anger in general as a negative thing, I will also admit that not all anger is bad anger. We are all aware that anger is inescapable and that it is something we all deal with, but there are going to be moments in our live where it works to our favor. Again, much of this comes down to what I brought up in the intro, which is the degree of the emotions. We all know that there are some things that make us more angry than other things, right? I may not get overly anger if one of my favorite sports teams lose a game, compared to someone else that gets angry to the point where their entire day is ruined. This is where the individual aspect comes into play when it comes to anger. I brought up how not all anger is bad anger, but much of that comes down to how a person chooses to channel their anger. Can you take your anger and channel it towards something positive, or do you lose control when you're anger to the point where you're raging out? I believe that a person that is able to properly channel their anger is a person that has more control over their anger. Again, anger is going to always be a part of our lives, but it all comes down to how we handle it. This ultimately brings us to the main theme of this topic, which is the importance of viewing anger in the proper context of our lives.
So why is it of importance for us to view anger in the proper context when it comes to our individual lives? As with the majority of emotions in life, it ultimately all comes down to individuality. Though every single one of us experiences anger in our lives from time to time, the ways in which we deal with our anger is what differs. This is why I mentioned earlier that not all anger is bad anger. Some people are able to take their anger and channel it towards positive actions, while the opposite applies to those that aren't able to do so. It is practically impossible to come up with a single formula on how to deal with anger. Rather than coming up with a standard formula for dealing with anger, it is important for us as individuals to determine what place that anger have in our lives. This is why I think it is important for us to view anger in a context that isn't so standard. Since most people view anger as a huge negative, you're going to have a lot of people that will say things to imply that people shouldn't get angry. That is a watered down viewpoint from my perspective. It is all about finding what role you want anger to potentially play in life. I'll end this by saying that whatever role a person chooses to deal with their anger, just try and do it in a healthy way that helps towards benefiting your life.
That is what I have for you all this week, so it is time for me to sign off for now. Thank you all once again to those of you that stopped by for another installment of 'Brad H.'s Perspective'! The Importance Of Knowing When There Is Better For You Out There.
I think that we can all agree with the idea that we as human-beings are very emotional beings. Now there are always variances when it comes to emotions and how they play a role in our lives. Some people are more emotional than others, but the fact remains that to be human is to have emotions. Try as we may, emotions are sometimes hard for us to grasp or understand. Furthermore, depending on the person and their level of understanding when it comes to their emotions, controlling emotions can be a daunting task as well. For the good majority of us that exist within this world, our emotions are usually the driving factor in the choices that we make. You will be hard pressed to find a person that is the same every single day. Depending on how a person feels emotionally at the time you encounter them plays a huge role in how that person will react. Now why do I bring all of this up about emotions? Well simply stated, our emotions and the lack of control of them often keeps us in situations that are no longer beneficial for us. In other words, our emotions can allow us to become attached to something or someone that may no longer be worthy of our time and energy. This is why I feel that it is of importance for us to know when there is something better for us that exists within this world.
What's going on everyone? This is Brad H. coming at you all once again, and I'd like to welcome you all to another installment of 'Brad H.'s Perspective'! I am here once again to present you all with a topic that I think would be beneficial in helping us to keep moving forward. I think that most of us can admit that we could use all the inspiration that we can get during these times we're living in now. So for my soapbox this week, I'm going to continue with the theme that I've brought up in the last couple of topics, which has to do with the Coronovirus pandemic that we're currently in. So I saw a segment on CNN last week where a reporter was on location at a church and interviewed a woman that was a member of that church. We're all aware that most states are under stay at home orders in order to curve the spread of the virus. However, this particular church was having a night service despite social distancing being encouraged by the government and media. Anyway, this woman that was being interviewed was defiant in her belief that she was within her right to attend church, and she went on to say that she wasn't concerned about contracting the virus. The reporter then asked her about the idea of her spreading it to someone else. You can probably tell how that went, but the point I want to make is that we have to protect one another during this time. Just because you may not be worried about contracting the virus doesn't mean that you won't spread it to another person. It is clear that people react in different ways to this, so while you may be okay contracting it, that may not be the case for another person. Just thought I would bring that up quickly, so lets transition into this week's topic of knowing when there is better for you.
Now I brought up earlier how our emotions are often a guiding factor in the things and people that we give our time and attention to. When we feel emotionally attached to something or someone, we often govern our actions in a different manner than we would if those emotions weren't involved. Just think for a second of all the people in life that you feel some form of attachment to. You are going to treat them differently than someone that you have no form of emotional attachment to. Now there is nothing wrong with having an emotional attachment to other people. Again, we are humans, not machines. Some people will try and make it seem like having an emotional attachment to others is bad, but I'm not one of those people that has a unrealistic viewpoint when it comes to that. However, I do feel that there is a big difference between having an attachment to something or someone, and on the flip side of that, being overly obsessed with something. I believe the potential downsides of being attached to things creep in when we fail to have a healthy balance of being emotional.
Now again, emotions are a part of life, but you don't want to be someone that is a slave to your emotions. See from my perspective, when you are a slave to your emotions, you can find yourself easily in situations and circumstances that you can outgrow eventually. One of the biggest examples that I can think of right now is something that all of us are experiencing now, or we've went through it in our life before. I'm sure most of you know where I'm headed with this, but just in case you don't know yet what I'm referring to, I'm talking about being in love with someone. Now not everyone will experience what I am about to say, but not everyone that you fall in love with is the person that you're meant to spend the rest of your life with. People sometimes grow apart, and there are numerous reasons why this happens. Often times life just drives people away from one another. I know that isn't something that most of us like to think about, but we all know that this is one of the hard truths that come along with living life. Now from my perspective, one of the worst things we as people can do is stay in a situation that is no longer befitting to us. This ultimately brings us to the main theme of this topic of the importance of knowing when there is better for you out there.
So why is it of importance to know when there is something better for you out there in this world? From my viewpoint on this, knowing when something greater awaits you helps you to remove yourself from the things and people that are no longer on your wavelength. Now some people will say that walking away from things and people that no longer serve you is easy right? Well remember how we talked at length about emotions? Anyone that is or has been emotionally attached to anything will admit that it isn't always easy to just leave something that you're attached to. However, a person that has a grasp on their emotions and not a slave to them not only loves themselves enough to remove themselves from situations beneath them, but they also look towards the future with optimism. One important thing that many of us forget is that there is always upside in this life. Now in saying that, I'm not saying you shouldn't never be content with what you have. However, what I am saying is that if you find that people and circumstances in your life are no longer aligned with the person that you've become, it is perfectly okay to step away from those situations. This is definitely not an easy thing to do, but understanding that the possibilities for better are endless with give us all the motivation we need to carry on.
That is pretty much all that I got for you all this week. I hope that those of you that made it this far enjoyed the topic and found some meaning in it. This has once again been another installment of 'Brad H.'s Perspective'! I am Brad H., and I'd like to once again thank all of you that stopped through. Well it is time for me to sign off for now, so I will speak with you all on the next topic. Why Your Emotions Can Manipulate Your Into Thinking Things Are Better Or Worse Than They Are.
When it comes to the subject of emotions and how we as humans deal with them, a consensus can be established that we all deal with them in different ways. Because we are all unique as individuals and the way that we react to the things we go through, the way we handle our emotions will always have variance. Some people are more emotional than others, and some people know how to keep their emotions in check for the most part. Whatever end of the spectrum that you may be on in regards to your emotions and how you handle them, emotions are just a human element that we all have to deal with. While we may not be able to control the fact that we naturally have emotions, the way that we choose to handle and deal with the emotional aspects of our lives is something that we can potentially get a handle on. Some may wonder why is it even of importance to get a handle on our emotions? The effects that our emotions can potentially have on us can be a tricky thing. For example, whenever something good happens in our lives, it is in our nature to feel emotionally good right? On the flip side of the coin when it comes to emotions, we naturally feel bad emotionally when something bad happens. Now when something good happens to us, or we find ourselves in a good situation, our emotions tell us that we should feel good and happy. However, because life is unpredictable and can change in an instant, the dynamic between being happy or sad has no guarantee. The fact that we often allow our emotions to dictate how we feel can often separate us from both the harsh and great aspects of life Because of this factor, our emotions can often manipulate us into thinking that things are much better or worse than they really are. This is even more of a reason for us to work on controlling our emotions.
Hey what is going on everyone? Fresh off the hot take, it is me Brad H. hitting you all up once again, and I'd like to welcome everyone to another edition of 'Brad H.'s Perspective'! I am here once again to drop some insight and wisdom that will hopefully serve us in our everyday lives. As always, I hope that life has been treating all of you as of late. For the soapbox section this week, I'm going to briefly give my thoughts on the NBA free agency so far. So LeBron James has decided to go to the Los Angeles Lakers. This wasn't that big of a surprise in my opinion. I think most of us figured he would be leaving Cleveland. I think that his family factored a lot into this decision. While I'm not a LeBron James fan, I do think that this is a good move for the NBA. The Lakers will likely be more relevant now than they have in recent years. With the Celtics being a powerhouse in the Eastern Conference now, I think that it is good for the NBA that these two storied franchises will be relevant. I think the most surprising move so far has been Demarcus Cousins going to the Golden State Warriors. I definitely didn't see that one coming. I think that it makes a lot of sense for Cousins though. After that ruptured Achilles he had, taking a huge pay cut and going to a team where he won't have to be the man will allow him to show if he can still play or not. I've been seeing people bash this move by him, but people need to remember that the majority of past NBA players that have suffered this injury weren't the same when they returned. Being that he is a physically bigger player, I can understand teams having concerns if he can get back to the level that he was before this injury. For everyone saying that the league is unfair and that the Warriors are a lock to win it all next season, I would say calm down. Signing Cousins is big for the Warriors, but it may not even have the impact that many people are expecting. There is a lot more that I could get into in regards to the NBA free agency, but I'm going to end it there for now. I could probably write an entire segment on this, but that isn't what this topic is about. With that said, lets get into why our emotions can play tricks on us.
As per the normal formula that I use, I'm going to go ahead and give the usual disclaimer that I use before addressing every topic that I cover. We all have different ways of thinking and viewing things in this life. The goal here isn't to focus on what is right or wrong, but rather to hopefully provide some wisdom that helps inspire us to see things in a manner in which we may not have before. Maybe more than anything else, I hope that these opinion topics will be helpful in the area of critical thinking. Naturally, I don't expect everyone out there to agree with the things I have to say. I'm not doing this to force my beliefs on anyone else. This is all about having a hub for inspiration and growth, and I cannot thank everyone that consistently read the topics that I cover enough. So for how I arrived at wanting to address this particular topic, I would have to say that a conversation that I had with my younger sister inspired me to want to address this. I can't help but thank my sister enough for much of what I talk about on here, because some of the ideas that I get come from discussions that I have with her. Beyond that, I felt as if this would be a topic that most people could probably relate to. I believe that many of us suffer from the inability to control our emotions at times. In saying this I am not trying to bash or criticize anyone, because I know for a fact that this is something that I have problems with at times myself. Furthermore, I believe that it is quite normal for us to allow our emotions to control us at times. I feel that there isn't a blueprint for properly addressing a topic such as this one. This is one of those things that we as individuals have to figure out what works best for us in helping us to overcome this.
Something that I have noticed within our society in regards as to how people view the thought of being emotional is that some people see it as a bad thing. You may have heard someone mention how a certain person is emotional in a manner which could be deemed as negative. I personally don't view a person being emotional as a bad thing. I just think that it makes us what we are, which is human-beings. Our emotions are what allow us to feel and experience both the good and bad in life. When you bite into one of your favorite foods you probably feel happiness, which is an emotion. When you fall and scrape an elbow or knee, you feel pain, which is also an emotion. There are so many different emotions both for good and bad that we can experience, so try not to allow other people to convince you that being emotional is a bad thing. Now while I firmly believe that experiencing emotions is both a good and normal thing that we as humans can experience, I also believe that they can also play tricks on us if we allow them to. Being an emotional person isn't necessarily a bad thing, but allowing your emotions to manipulate us can blind us from the realities of life. Some of you may be wondering; how exactly can our emotions manipulate us? Like I mentioned earlier, our emotions often dictate how we view various aspects of our lives. This can either work in our favor or against us depending on what the situation may be. While emotions are a part of our lives, the idea that we want to establish here is to not allow them to control our lives. We want to be able to separate between what reality is and what our emotions at that particular MOMENT are showing us. I put the word "moment" in all caps because often times whatever emotion(s) that we're experiencing is only a moment.
So what is an example of how our emotions can manipulate us? There are so many that can be used, but I'm going to use one that I'm sure that nearly all of us have experienced at some point or another; I'd like to call it the downward spiral effect. I liken to this to when we're dealing with something that has us down or depressed, and then through constant negative thoughts due to the situation that we're in, we find that our emotions start to creep in and makes the situation worse. So lets just say that you found out that you weren't accepted for a promotion or reward that you were hoping to receive. Naturally you would feel disappointed about this right? Now this is something that on the scale of life could be compared as minuscule compared to something like finding out that someone that you're close to has passed. Now depending on the mental fortitude of the person that has been disappointed by not receiving the promotion or reward, this can quickly turn into a scenario where their emotions can take this situation and make it even worse. You may begin to think and wonder why these things continue to happen to you. You may start to wonder if and when you will receive a breakthrough in your life. All of these thoughts can be self-defeating, and that is when those emotions can creep in. Those emotions can break you down to the point where you feel hopeless and depressed based only on the idea of not getting what you want in the moment. Again, I don't want to diminish something like this, but if you place it in the scale of life as I mentioned, you'll realize that something like not receiving a promotion is fairly small compared to more pressing issues in life. Again, this is how our emotions can manipulate us into thinking that we're in a far worse predicament than we think.
The same logic applies also when it comes to things going our way as well. Lets say that you do end up receiving that promotion or award that you wanted. Naturally you would feel joy and happiness right? I mean it would be normal to feel on top of the world and fulfilled, but lets just say that whatever promotion you receive comes with added responsibility that you may not be entirely ready for. While the emotions of joy and happiness would come along with this achievement, the added stress of having to live up to whatever you have received is still going to loom over you. The emotional aspect makes you think that you've reached the level of happiness you want, but the rational side that we often mask will come in and let us know that while things are going well at the moment, there may be challenges on the horizon. Again, this all deals with emotional content. I'm addressing this topic to help show that while we are emotional beings by nature, we have to try not to allow our emotions drown out the realities of life that we have to face. There's a saying that goes along the lines of that "you're never doing as good as you think you are, and you're never doing as bad as you think you are." From my perspective, whatever side of the coin that you may find yourself on in regards to this saying probably deals with your emotional state at the moment. The emotional aspect of life has caused many people to end up doing things that they ended up regretting. While controlling our emotions is a challenging prospect that life gives us, it is important in keeping ourselves on an even keel. We want to strive to be individuals that have the capacity to do things cause of our own free will, and not because we're allowing the emotions that we may be feeling at the moment to drive us. I challenge everyone to take a second and think for a minute if you find that you're allowing your emotions to get to you. Remember that although things may be going good or bad at the moment, your emotions can always trick you into thinking things are something they're not.
Well we have arrived at the end of another topic folks! I'm hoping that this topic was able to provide some inspiration for everyone out there. I also hope that I was able to write this in a way in which it has some meaning and understanding. This is your guy Brad H., and I'd like to thank you all for once again tuning into another edition of 'Brad H.'s Perspective'!
The Importance of Controlling Your Emotions.
We're all aware that our emotions play a huge part in our everyday ability to function. Our emotions are normally the driving factor behind the decisions that we make, as well as how we react to certain things that happen in our lives. While we all have emotional moments and experiences that are a part of our make-up, the degree of variance in how our emotions control us will vary from person to person. Some people will just be more emotional than others, and some people will allow their emotions in certain circumstances to control them more than others. It appears that in this day and age that society looks down upon people that are emotional, and while I'm a firm believer that it's okay for we as people to be emotional at times, allowing our emotions to control us can be a very detrimental thing to our lives. It's okay to have emotions, but it's also important to work on having a firm hold over your emotions as well.
What's up ladies and gentlemen? Good day to you all, and welcome to another edition of 'Brad H.'s Perspective'. As I tend to say repetitively because it's the truth, I hope this reaches you all in good health and spirits, as well as in a positive state of mind. The year 2016 is quickly progressing along, and we've already arrived at the month of March. March is always an exciting month for me as it marks my birthday month. I'll be celebrating my 35th year on this planet on the 11th, so I'm pretty excited about that milestone if you will. Also, I wrote in the last post that I would be participating in a 5K in late February. The race took place this past Saturday, and it was an overall fun and successful event. The event titled the Kinsel Ford 5K was the very first race that I ever partook in, and this year marked my fifth time participating in this annual event. Saying that it has somewhat of a nostalgic place in my life would be an understatement. For the past few years, it has become an event that I look forward to. Although it was a challenging ordeal participating with my dealing of a few injuries leading up to the race, I was still able to complete the race in under 30 minutes; the target goal that I normally set for myself. Its been a few days since the event took place, and I'm still pretty satisfied with the aftermath! So the next big thing happening for me will be my upcoming birthday, and I'll be sure to talk about that some in the next post. Alright, lets go ahead and get into this week's topic of dealing with our emotions better.
Before getting into this topic, I want to state that a person's viewpoint on a topic will always vary. My goal with all of this isn't to focus on what is considered right or wrong, but rather using this platform as an outlet to express my opinions. If you happen to disagree with me that's perfectly fine, however, through the process of expressing my opinions via this platform, the hope is to leave anyone that reads this with something to think about and maybe evaluate more. Now as I stated earlier in this post, emotions play a big part in how we live our lives. I would even go so far as to say that the way we handle our emotions is probably at the core essence of who we are as people. I believe that emotions are the catalyst for not only how we view the world in general, but for also how we view our relationships and interactions with others. When you really take it in and consider it, the happenings in our individual lives, along with how good or bad our relationships with others are play a large factor in determining how high or low our emotions can get. It's basically a process of what is happening in our lives vs. how we react to and handle what is happening.
Now from my perspective on this topic, being an overly emotional person can be a good or bad thing depending on what is happening in our lives. We're all aware that whenever something good happens for us that it normally sparks happy feelings and emotions, while the opposite happens whenever things tend to go south. Since happy and positive emotions are associated with things going well, for the sake of making my point in this post, I want to focus on the importance of having control of our emotions when things may not be going all the best. My reasoning behind this has to due with that the fact that many of us make irrational choices and decisions whenever we're allowing ourselves to be controlled by our emotions. This is exactly why I stated earlier that this is a habit that can be very detrimental to our lives. Whenever you're an emotional wreck when things aren't going all that well, it's important for you to understand you're not really your true self at that particular moment. At that moment, you've more or less become a slave to your emotions, which in turn puts you more at risk of making bad choices.
Some of you may wonder why is any of this even relevant since we all have emotions. I can't speak for anyone else, but it's important to me because I myself have allowed myself to become a slave to negative emotions at times. It's something that we all battle with at times but more importantly, it's something that I see happening in society way more than I'd like to see. Too many individuals are hurting themselves both in the long and short term by allowing their emotions to control them at certain moments. Think about this example for a second. You have a person that maybe loaned a family member or a friend some money right? Weeks go by and they haven't seen nor heard from the individual that the money was loaned to. Now the emotion of anger is probably beginning to kick in, and at this point it would be totally justifiable. Now lets say for the sake or argument that the person finally catches up with and confronts the individual they loaned the money to, and a heated argument takes place among the two. While being angry is understandable, do you believe it would do more harm or good if the person that loaned the money confronted the other individual in a more aggressive manner compared to a more calmer approach?
The point that I'm trying to make here is that allowing your emotions to control you in bad situations can be counter productive. We've all seen and heard of family members and friends falling out over certain things, which is similar to the example that I used. Normally in these type of situations, it begins with anger, which leads to a negative emotional state of mind that sparks these heated confrontations. In the end, these type of conflicts ultimately do more damage than good. As I've mentioned previously, it's perfectly normal for our emotions to play a role in certain situations. The thing we want to focus on is not allowing ourselves to do or say something we end up regretting because we were emotional at a particular moment. None of us are perfect and we're all flawed individuals, so of course gaining a hold on our emotions is a task that will not come easy. However, the thing we want to work on is becoming more conscious of our decisions whenever those negative emotions start to creep in. From my perspective, a more conscious person is a more aware person, and a more aware person makes better decisions regardless of how good or bad a moment is. One of my favorite examples I like to use in regards to controlling your emotions goes like this: Allowing your emotions to control you is like being in a moving car, and your emotions are in the drivers seat while you're sitting on the passengers side; a crash is bound to occur.
Well folks that's it for this entry of 'Brad H.'s Perspective'. I believe and hope that I was able to get across the point that I'm trying to make. Like always, the hope is that some meaning and understanding was gained from this. Even if there wasn't, I still appreciate those of you that stop by. Alright I'm out this peace, so thanks again to those of you that stopped by. Have a great week ahead, and stay positive my people. See you all in the next one. Peace!

Has Society Confused Being Weird With Being Unique?
He is such a weirdo! She does some of the weirdest things! Those people are so weird! Sound familiar? I'm pretty positive that the majority of us have been viewed as weird by others at sometime or another. Most likely, in the event we're not being referred to as weird by other people, we've all at the very least been around people doing the weird talk of others. When we're not listening to others referring to someone else as weird, then we're the ones likely participating in the weird talk of others ourselves. So much "weirdness" that I'm starting off with this post today right? With so much weird talking of others going on within our society, it can sometimes be difficult to differentiate between being weird and being unique. Then again, depending on how you view things, maybe the two are one in the same. I personally believe there is a difference among the two, and I'm going to shed a bit of light on why I think that is.
What's good people? Welcome to another edition of 'Brad H.'s Perspective'! Hope everyone has been doing great as of late. Like I always say in my blog entries, I greatly appreciate those of you that have taken out the time to stop by once again. It has been a month or so since I've posted, so I'm back at it again with another one of my perspectives on a topic that I've been pondering on for quite a bit. In this entry, I will be giving my viewpoint on the whole weird vs. unique debate. Then again, since I don't really see or hear a lot of people debate this topic, I wouldn't necessarily classify it as a debate. It is however a topic that I've discussed with several people, and I do believe that there is some merit within discussing a topic such as this one. Lets get right to it!
As with any topic that can be discussed or debated, a person's individual viewpoint will always vary to what that individual thinks. My goal isn't to focus on being right or wrong, but rather coming to a space where there is a mutual respect among others opinions, despite having disagreements on those opinions. Just wanted to make sure that I threw that out there before going any further. Now I personally have somewhat of a problem with the whole weird vs. unique argument. My problem with this topic isn't just narrowed down to the fact that I'm certain there are people that view me as being weird. I'm totally fine with that if that's what someone feels. My biggest issue with this topic is that I think many of us mistake being uniqueness for being weird. Since I feel like this is happening so often in today's society, I think that a lot of people are being unfairly categorized into being something they're truly not.
Speaking for myself only, I see unique and weird as two fairly different traits. When I think of the word unique, I think of different in a good and positive way. The word weird doesn't necessarily come off as bad to me, but it doesn't evoke the good emotions I feel when I think of someone being unique. This is an assessment I think many of us can agree with. I say this because lets be honest here; most people that are classified as being weird by others are seldom viewed in a positive light. The majority of the time when we hear someone referring to others as being weird, it is normally some bad or negative. Now since I believe that many individuals that are simply unique and different in a good way and are being confused with being weird, these individuals are often avoided by those that view them as being weird. The end result is that a lot of people that are simply misunderstood by society are the mains one who end up being ostracized.
We all are individuals with our own identities, which means that we are all unique regardless. I'm not just talking about being unique in our skin tones, looks, etc. We're all unique in the things we enjoy, the values we have, the ways we think, etc. Being unique individuals is what differentiates us from being just like everyone else, and just because a person is unique, it doesn't mean they're weird. Think about this for just a second; what would the world be like if everyone dressed the same, liked the same exact things, and done everything the same way? That sounds like a pretty stale and boring society to me. From what I see on a daily basis, it almost feels like a person is instantly viewed as being weird if they're not doing what everyone else in society is doing. A person shouldn't be doing everything that society is doing just to gain approval from others. We should be marching to the beat of our own drum, and doing the things that make us happy regardless of what it looks like in society's eyes.
From my perspective, people that commit mass murders and crimes are weird. People that molest and hurt others are weird. People who have no compassion, and will belittle others to feed their own egos are weird. People that engage in these things I mentioned are weird in my eyes. Why, you may ask? I view them as weird, because they hurt others, and are not helping or adding anything to society. People that may dress differently from the normal, have views that aren't mainstream, or choose to stay home instead of going clubbing every weekend aren't hurting nor bothering anyone else. They're not stepping on anyone else's toes, so why are they weird? We have to open our minds and become more tolerant of how others live their lives. If the way a person lives isn't affecting you personally or hurting anyone else, then that person isn't weird in my opinion. Finally, if you're a person that lives an unconventional lifestyle, never allow others to make you feel weird because you're not like everyone else. Continue to let your individual uniqueness define who you are.
I believe I've gotten my point across in this post, so I'm going to go ahead and wrap this one up. Thank you again to those of you that tuned in to another edition of 'Brad H.'s Perspective'. My hope is that some meaning and understanding was gained through this post and even if there wasn't, I still appreciate you reading. Thank you for your continued support, and I'll see you all in the next one. Peace!

Peace!
