I think saying that most people in the world today are extremely self-absorbed would be a massive understatement. I imagine that from the beginning of time that we as people have always been this way. However, in my time living on this planet, I've noticed over the years that we have taken selfishness to an entirely different level. When I was growing up as a kid, while people were indeed selfish, people also seemed like they were more willing to take others into account. I remember a time when people would fall on hard times and need help, family and friends would pull together to help the people that experienced setbacks. I'm in no way saying that people like this do not exist today. I'm simply saying that people aren't as quick to do so like they once did. Now there are various reasons for why we as people have become so self-absorbed with ourselves. That's something that I will go more into later on in this topic. Also, being a selfish person to an extent isn't that bad of a thing in certain circumstances. Yes, there are definitely times where you do have to look out for your own needs and desires before others. I've always viewed life as a sort of give and take type of thing. There are going to be times when you have to look out for yourself, but there will also be moments where taking a backseat to others the better option. When it comes to us as people being so self-absorbed within ourselves, it often leads to us missing out on the greater picture of life. This is truly detrimental for those of us that are seeking an greater a greater understanding of life. Though it may be beneficial for us to be selfish and self-absorbed at times, making an attempt to view things outside of ourselves can help lead to a greater understanding.
What's good once again people? This is Brad H. reporting once again, and I'd like to welcome you all to another installment of 'Brad H.'s Perspective'! I am back once again to bring a topic that I've been thinking of lately. Through those thoughts, I'm hopefully able to express myself with this topic in hopes that it will help inspire us all. Those that are regular visits here know that this is the section of the post where I talk about something that isn't related to the topic for the week. So for this week's soapbox section, I want to talk about something that I don't like to bring up that often on here; politics. We are in an election year once again, and I thought I would give a few of my thoughts on the biases and manipulation that surrounds politics. Now if we're being honest, most people here in America don't really follow politics until it's an election year. There's nothing wrong with that at all, but I think that those of us that are seeking to be informed about what's going on in the world of politics need to be aware of who and what we're listening to. A lot of the mainstream media outlets have corporate interests invested in particular candidates, and their coverage isn't always going to be fair and balance like they claim it will be. I encourage everyone to go beyond what you see and hear on the mainstream media outlets, and take a look at alternative sources. There are a lot of other resources that are available for us to make informed choices. I just wanted to say that because the mainstream media often attempts to manipulate us with their hidden agendas. Just aim to be an informed voter is all I'm saying. So now that I've gotten that out of the way, lets go ahead and get more into this week's topic of why viewing things outside of yourself helps towards gaining a greater understanding.
Now I began this topic speaking about how self-absorbed that we as people are these days, but when you're able to truly evaluate the world that we're living in with a clear mind, it really isn't all that hard to see why most people are this way. Now I'm not entirely sure when the biggest shift came in regards to people being overly consumed with themselves. What I do know is that there have been numerous developments and changes over the years that have aided in this happening. What I personally would consider to be one of the biggest reasons as to why we're so self-absorbed is technology constantly changing and evolving. Technology has evolved so much over the decades, and through that evolution that has occurred, with it has come an immense amount of convenience. Now having certain things being convenient in your life isn't always a bad thing. Just like I brought up in the last topic that I covered on here, there are times when taking the more easier way over the harder way will benefit you the most. However, it is also wise to remember that when it comes to having things that are so easily convenient in your life, it can put you in a position where you constantly expect things to happen quickly. It is pretty much similar to the idea of instant gratification, and we all know by know that social media has played a huge factor in the rise of instant gratification.
Now when it comes down to the concept of being able to gain a greater understanding, some may wonder what exactly is it that I'm referring to? The simple definition of the word "understanding" is "the ability to understand something; comprehension." From my own perspective, this can entail a limitless amount of things that could be understood. It also means that you're aware that some things in this life aren't always going to be able to be understood by you, and that is okay as well. When I personally think of what understanding means to me, I think of it as being able to view life in general in a much larger lens. I think of being able to see outside of that little bubble that we all tend to create for ourselves. Now there isn't anything with being in your bubble, nor is there nothing wrong with looking out for yourself the majority of the time. I personally feel that the problem settles in when you become so over consumed with yourself to the point where you can't comprehend things from the perspective of others. This is where the whole self-absorbed thing that I have brought up throughout this topic comes into play.
So why do I believe that viewing things outside of yourself can help towards having a greater understanding? Well from my perspective, being able to see things outside of yourself gives you a greater sense of empathy and compassion. See, from my perspective, when you're overly self-absorbed and selfish, you're blinding yourself to the larger picture of life. I believe that many people forget that while your life is only yours to live, there are billions of other people that are here as well. I know that sounds obvious, but for people that are too self-absorbed with themselves, being forgetful of that is likely a regular occurrence. Now you can be a person that is all of the things that I have described in regards to be overly consumed only with yourself, and you may be okay with that. However, what I've noticed is that the people that don't exhibit these traits constantly are the people that others gravitate to. I believe that when you're a person that has understanding and can see the more broader picture, you gain an added understanding of being able to relate to others. This is why I believe it is important to at least make the attempt to view things outside of yourself. Yes, we're all important and valuable as individuals, but there is always things that are much bigger than ourselves that are going on as well. There are many different paths towards having understanding, and I think seeing things outside of ourselves is one of the greatest paths that we can take.
That pretty much covers what I wanted to convey in this topic, so it is time for me to depart once again. Thank you all that stopped through for another installment of 'Brad H.'s Perspective'! Like I always bring up in my closings, I hope that there was some meaning and understanding that could be taken away from this topic. Any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to leave those in the comment section. You can also hit me up on Twitter @BradrickH if you'd like to connect on there. Well I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend, and I thank you all for the support once again. Have a great week ahead, and I hope to see you all in the next topic. Your Worth Isn't Defined By A Number.
Even from a very young age of life, the majority of people realize how big of a role that numbers have on our lives. Numbers are just as important to life as the alphabet, and it can even be debated as to which of the two is the most important. Whether its dealing with academics, money, age and etc, numbers will continue be involved in our days daily. While numbers are understandably a crucial aspect of life, I've come to notice how often that we as a society define people by numbers. This particular thought has been weighing pretty heavily on my mind as of late, and whenever that starts to happen, I have to use this platform to address my individual thoughts about whatever it is. Since much of society defines others by numbers; something that I've come to wholeheartedly disagree with, I'm going to be addressing why I feel that a person's worth shouldn't be defined by numbers.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all! Welcome to the first edition of 'Brad H.'s Perspective' for 2016. We made it guys! Although 2016 is still brand new, I hope that the new year has been peaceful and positive for everyone thus far. I kinda slacked up posting these entries during the latter part of 2015, and for that I apologize. I was heavily involved in a few other things that I'm interested in, plus it was the holiday season, and I spent quite a bit of time with the relatives. I'm back again now however, and what better way than to get the new year started with being active on here active? I must say that I'm feeling pretty good so far into this year. One thing that has me feeling great is that my grandmother will be celebrating her 82nd birthday this upcoming weekend. I'm definitely happy about that, as well as some other positive things that have happened for me as of late. Alright, lets go ahead and get into why I feel that we shouldn't be defined by a number, or numbers.
Like I mention in all my entries on here, a person's individual viewpoint on any topic varies from person to person. The goal here isn't to focus on what is right or wrong, but rather having an outlet to express individual opinions on topics that will hopefully get others to think about and reevaluate. Now we all know that we live in a very materialistic society. This has been stated time and time again, almost to the point where it has become a broken record for most. I'm not saying that everyone views the world in this manner, however, society in general normally defines people by the amount of wealth a person has acquired, as well as the kind of material possessions a person obtains. Now I'm not going to say that none of this isn't important. There definitely are certain things that could be classified as "materialistic" that are required in order to survive in this world, and money for a prime example is one of them. A person would be naive to believe that money doesn't have a degree of importance in life.
Now what do material items, money, cars, etc all have in common? Yep, you guess it; they are all defined by different amounts, which means that they are essentially numbers beyond the purposes they serve. As I mentioned previously, numbers are important in everyday life, and since the things I mentioned involve numbers, they are of course important as well. While all of that is fine and dandy, here is the issue that stems from the root of this topic. While numbers are important to life, the over-emphasizing of numbers has created a system where we as a society has come to devalue other individuals as human-beings. We are tying a person's worth to superficial things, which in turn is causing us to look at our fellow men and women only as being numbers. It's almost as if the less a person has from a monetary standpoint, they are viewed by society as being worthless. This isn't cool in my opinion, and this way of thinking has seriously messed up our psyche.
One of the biggest examples of this that I can think of off top is the whole number system that we've created in regards to how a person looks. We've become a society that uses a scale of 1 through 10 to evaluate how physically attractive a person is. Of course a 10 (aka a dime piece) means that a person is super attractive, and a 1 means a person isn't. Now take a moment and think about that for a second. We're judging other HUMAN-BEINGS on something that they cannot even control. Do you even realize how shallow minded that is? Yes, I understand that everyone isn't going to be the apple of a person's eye, but isn't beauty supposed to be in the eye of it's beholder? Despite all of that, I personally think that it's wrong to rate others by something they cannot control due to a shallow and superficial scale that society has made up. I realize we've all been young and probably done it before at some point, however, that doesn't mean that it's necessarily right.
From my perspective, we need to try getting back to a time where things were much simple. A time when people didn't judge a person's worth by superficiality. Humans shouldn't be viewed like items that you purchase at a store with price tags. If you're a person that feels down from time to time because others have made you feel you're not attractive or rich enough, just remember that your worth isn't defined by a number. You are still a human-being and regardless as to what your age or social status is, you can still contribute to the greater good in some way. Invaluable qualities like knowledge, wisdom, and character; things that a good portion of society is lacking today, can be way more important to the greater good than a beautiful face and nice body. Going out of your way to help others by volunteering, or doing something nice for the elderly can be just as important than how much money you have in your bank account. If you care bout numbers that much, how about counting how many times you've helped others. In the end, the only numbers that really matter are the number of times you contribute to something or someone bigger than yourself.
Well I believe I got my point across in this entry, so I'm going to go ahead and bring this to an end. Thank you once again for joining me on another edition of 'Brad H.'s Perspective'. My hope is that there is some meaning and understanding gained from this entry, and even if there isn't, I still appreciate those of you that stopped by. Happy New Year to you all again, and I'll see you all in the next one. Peace!

Complaining Is A Toxic Habit (Complaining With No Action).
Is it just me, or does it seems like the majority of people today complain way too much? It almost feels like there is something in the air or water that is causing people to hammer down on how certain things are or aren't happening in their lives. I know that we all complain and vent at times; wait a second. My bad, I think there is a difference between venting and complaining. Quite frankly, I don't see nothing wrong with venting at times. Key phrase in that sentence, 'at times'. I'd much rather be around a person that vents, rather than complains contantly. What's up peeps? This is your guy Brad H. with another concoction of 'Brad H's Perspective'. Thank you for lending your eyes to this blog post, and reading up on my thoughts. Alright, so we're talking about how people complain so much these days. Complaining is a toxic habit in my eyes, and I try my hardest not to do it too often. First off, I want to start off with a question. Could someone please tell me what complaining constantly solves? I mean really, what does it solve? Now I have no problem with people that vent to others with their problems, as long as they're not overdoing it. Heck, lets face it, we all vent at times; we just have our different ways of doing it. However, one thing that really brings me down is people that complain constantly. The wild thing is that these types of people constantly harp, but don't seem to take any action. I'll give you an example.
I was watching this video on Youtube of a guy that I subscribe to on there. He issued a 100 push-up challenge in one of his videos, and he done 100 push-ups before challenging his viewers to do the same. After reading through the comment section of the video, many people were complaining about how he done the push-ups all wrong. So, what did he do? He uploaded another video, and done the push-ups the way that some of the viewers suggested to him. However, this time he told them not to say anything, unless they uploaded a response video of themselves doing the challenge. Guess what? People were still criticizing and complaining. What a surprise right? You got all these people not willing to do something themselves, but offering an opinion? Get out of here.
Now back to the subject. When I think of a person venting, I think of someone that may an issue going on. It may be a friend or relative, and they choose to talk something over with you. The main thing they probably want is just want you to lend an ear. After that, that's the end of it in most occasions. Nothing wrong with that. We all need guidance at times, and it feels good to be able to have genuine people that offer to lend an ear. But a person that complains all the time? Oh man they are the worse. These are people that come around with every single problem or issue that they're facing. They often don't take any actions to solve their problems, but instead attempt to bring you down because they are down. People like this are toxic in my opinion. I personally feel that anyone that genuinely cares about you wouldn't bring their drama into your life. The sad thing is that a lot of the people that we're close to are the ones doing this and because of that, many of us feel an obligation to them. Therefore, a lot of people put up with it when they normally would not.
The main theme that I want to get across in this week's post is that we need to stop all the complaining. It can become a bad and annoying habit, and it doesn't solve anything most of the time. If a person keeps it up, you're going to become a person that no one wants to be around. I can't speak for anyone else, but I can't stand being around a constant complainer. It totally kills my vibe, and I'm sure that it does the same for some of you. Instead of complaining so much, lets focus on taking action and solving our problems. Like the saying goes, "less talk and more action". I'm not saying that my view on this topic is right or wrong, just dissing out my two cents. I hope that there is some meaning and understanding taken from it. Well thanks again for checking out another edition of 'Brad H's Perspective'. I hope all is good and well with everyone. Keep the faith, and keep staying positive. See you all in the next one. Peace!
